A memorial park is an excellent place to honor the fallen from any branch of the military. Its main attractions include a circular water fountain and ten flagpoles, each with an official seal. Each flagpole flies the flag of one branch of the armed forces, including the US, New Jersey State, and Essex County. Memorial Park is located near Eleven Mile Road and Middlebelt Street. The park has recently been refurbished with new landscaping, sidewalks, and a granite memorial. Other items for sale are birdhouses and commemorative plaques. Visitors are encouraged to take their time at this serene area and reflect on their loved one’s life. Those who are interested in creating a lasting tribute can donate items for the park’s gift shop. You can also purchase a commemorative statue or birdhouse to display in your home.
A triangular site on which the memorial sits was once a dairy farm. The former hospital closed in 2010, and the Rudin Management Company converted the site into a residential building. The park was donated to the City of New York in 2017. In 2017, the Rudin Management Company donated the land to the city for a memorial park. Today, many people view Memorial’s location as the epicenter of a tragic epidemic. Many consider the Memorial a symbol of the broader struggle to overcome the effects of the AIDS epidemic.
