The memorial park is a serene and calming place for remembrance and recreation. Our design was inspired by the deep meaning of remembrance and our desire to offer a symbiotic connection with nature.
The Memorial Park Conservancy is implementing a long-range master plan to enhance the ecological resilience of these beloved acres. This work includes preserving the iconic Chicano Gothic mural and introducing new ways to experience the park’s cultural heritage.
The Living Urn
There are many ways to remember a loved one, from scattering ashes to keeping them with you in cremation jewelry or keepsakes. But a growing number of families are also choosing to plant a tree memorial.
The Living Urn is America’s leading bio urn and planting system designed to transform cremated remains into a living memory tree, plant or flowers. Unlike seeds, which require special conditions to grow and can have high failure rates, The Living Urn uses a blend of natural composting materials to promote healthy growth.
Each kit includes a biodegradable urn, a premium tree seedling or young plant of your choice, RootProtect (an ash neutralizing agent), and easy-to-follow planting instructions, all packaged in an attractive bamboo container. The urn is available online or from select funeral homes, veterinary practices, cemeteries and cremation service providers. It can also be purchased through the Memory Forest program, a series of strategic partnerships with cemeteries and memorial parks throughout the country.
A Tranquil Setting
A memorial park is a serene and peaceful location that fosters reflection, remembrance and healing. This ambiance is created through well-maintained gardens and greenery that are expertly placed throughout the cemetery grounds.
In addition, memorial parks are environmentally conscious and have a lower carbon footprint than traditional burial. Cemeteries can leave a large ecological footprint with the use of wood, metal, concrete, and toxic embalming fluids. Memorial forests reduce these environmental impacts by reforestation and habitat creation.
The grounds at Memorial Park are also adorned with unique statuary and a serene lake, along with religious art, uniquely titled gardens, tree-line drives, a Masonic area, and a special garden for firefighters and law enforcement officers. This combination makes the cemetery a one-of-a-kind place that is distinct from other memorial locations.
When it’s play time, the kids will enjoy the two tree-house themed playgrounds and basketball court. Or, for a more vigorous workout, the 1.1 mile fitness loop is shaded by our majestic oak trees. And when it’s lunchtime, there are 17 covered picnic tables to choose from.
A Place of Remembrance
Unlike traditional cemeteries, memorial parks offer a space for remembrance without competing headstones. Instead, dignified sculptured bronze markers lie flat on landscaped plots, creating a sense of peaceful contemplation. Central water features, statuary, or gathering spots are incorporated into the primary design to further define sections and enhance the beauty of the grounds.
One of the memorial park’s most important symbolic elements is a Callery pear tree that was saved from the rubble of 9/11 and nursed back to health. This “Survivor Tree” serves as a reminder that we can overcome tragedy.
Whether you are visiting family members, attending an event or simply enjoying our tranquil setting, we invite you to take in all that Memorial Park has to offer. Our natural landscaping of over 152 close-in acres is beautiful in all seasons, and our 1.1 mile fitness loop is perfect for sweating it out without baking in the sun! Complimentary yahrzeit candles are also available for families to light.
A Place of Gathering
Unlike traditional cemeteries, memorial parks feature dignified sculptured bronze markers that lay flat on landscaped plots. This allows for natural beauty to prevail throughout the grounds and a sense of peace for quiet meditation. In addition to a serene atmosphere, many of these sites also include beautiful ponds and walking paths where family members can relax.
In the heart of town, Memorial Park is a popular destination for people of all ages to connect and unwind. Kids enjoy two tree-house themed playgrounds and paved walking trails that offer plenty of space to roam. Multiple pavilions are ideal for picnicking and hosting private special events.
When the weather turns warmer, Memorial Park is also home to a public pool. Guests can cool off from the summer heat while enjoying a variety of water slides and other fun attractions. The park is also a great place to exercise thanks to its 1.1 mile fitness loop. It is shaded by oak trees and features plenty of benches to rest along the way.
